Personalized Farmhouse Serving Tray

Recently, we decided to make a big change and bought a new sectional couch and ottoman for our living room. Our old couch had cup holders so it has been a bit of an adjustment living without them. I knew a serving tray for the ottoman would be the perfect solution to this problem.

Okay so I admit I am a sucker for an easy DIY project. I’ve been eyeing up this pre-cut circular board at Home Depot for awhile now and finally snatched one up. I knew it would be perfect to for a personalized farmhouse serving tray. They have two sizes but I chose the larger 2ft circle.

The first step is lightly sand each side to prep the wood for stain.

Now it is ready for stain. I was really excited because I bought a new stain color today and I absolutely love how it came out. The color is Briarsmoke by Varathane.

I used my Silhouette machine to cut a vinyl stencil for the monogram. Now if you don’t have a cutting machine don’t worry! You can still buy pre-made stencils at a craft store or try looking on Etsy.

Apply vinyl transfer paper over your stencil. Then remove the paper backing from the stencil. Carefully line the stencil up centered on the serving tray and stick down onto the wood. Then peel off transfer paper.

I found that spray paint is the easiest and best method when using vinyl stencils. I made sure to mask around all the wood area first to protect from any overspray. Then carefully spray inside the stencils. You will want to make sure that you are not holding the can too close to the wood or paint can seep underneath the stencil. It works best to spray lightly and in layers.

Next peel up your stencil and your almost done!

The last step is to add on the handles. I bought these adorable handles at Home Depot for $1.50 each. They were originally black but I decided to spray paint them white to really make them pop.

Once the handles were dry then they were ready to attach. I lined them up evenly with one on each side and screwed them in.

And here is the finished serving tray! I absolutely love this project and it is so easy to do. It only cost me about $15 in total. So if your looking for a cheap and easy DIY project, then I definitely recommend trying out this personalized farmhouse serving tray!
